The
Institute for Science and Human Values (ISHV) is happy
to welcome Margaret Brown Ph.D. to its board of
directors.
Brown was a well received presenter this
past May at
ISHV's workshop on moral education for children in
Tampa, Florida.
Ms. Brown is a
retired Youth and Family Development Specialist in
Cooperative Extension at the University of Delaware
where her
primary focus was on parenting and adolescent
development. She periodically summarized research
literature on parenting and parenting education to
implement evidence-based programs like the Delaware Home
Visiting Program in which she was involved in planning,
training, and evaluation. A similar summary of research
on adolescent sexuality issues was prepared for Kids
Count of Delaware. She coordinated the Delaware
component of National Extension's Children, Youth, and
Family at Risk program and chaired the program's
nationwide Adolescent Sexuality Education Committee.
Brown holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware and
is currently promoting sexuality education provided by a
family planning organization and volunteering at a
domestic violence shelter.
Said Ms.
Brown,
"As we witness intense efforts to turn half-truths and
falsehoods into 'facts' by repetition across many media
sources, Daniel Patrick Moynihans's observation in the
60s is vitally relevant: 'Everyone is entitled to his
own opinion, but not to his own facts.' Promoting
critical thinking for citizens of all ages is crucial to
maintaining a just society."
"We are all
delighted that Margaret has joined the ISHV board of
directors," commented Paul Kurtz, chairman and founder
of ISHV. "Her wisdom and experience will prove
invaluable as we move forward with this vitally
important new organization." |
