GEOSET - GLOBAL EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH - SCIENCE ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Google, YouTube and Wikipedia, together with supporting IT technologies such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe, Apple etc have spearheaded the second revolution - the GooYouWiki World (GYWW). It exploits the Internet to democratise broadcasting by a triple revolution: 1) A paradigm shift in seeking, finding and accessing information – including embedded material (Google etc) 2) Fostering the creation of imaginative (and not so imaginative) audio-visual material – so democratising film making (YouTube etc) and 3) Encouraging the passion to create and assemble a globally accessible networked cache of all human knowledge (Wikipedia).  On the basis of considerable experience gained with the Vega Science Trust www.vega.org.uk the GEOSET intiative (gateway www.geoset.info, pilot site www.geoset.fsu.edu) aims to make outstanding educational material readily accessible and downloadable free via the Internet to everyone but particularly to school teachers. The material created by outstanding educators and committed communicators is based in a network of synergistically collaborating universities and related institutions. Presently there are nodes in the US, UK, Japan, Croatia and Brazil (Att 8.0).

GEOSET - GLOBAL EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH - SCIENCE ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

We must work with the teacher we already have and encourage the global cohort of educators to contribute to this initiative which recognizes that many teachers’ efforts are presently thwarted mainly lack of resources.  An economical way of improving matters is to get the internet to every teacher and empower them by making available downloadable and readily assimilated material.  Teachers no longer need to re-invent all the teaching wheels, as it is now possible to record the World’s best educators and make creative source material available.  Working together in a synergistic network, we can quickly, cover all educational bases.
